Adventures in Chain

I drew a funny.  Blaine mocking Joven for braiding his hair.  Joven typically speaks with proper english (and doesn’t use conjunctions as you’ll eventually see), but here he’s mocking Blaine back. :)Oh yeah, I’m very aware of how bad Blaine’s hands look!

My new storage for my chainmail kit.  It’s nice to have everything so damn organized!

Just a bit of an update.

So, just figured I’d let my few followers know what’s goin’ on with the ol’ Plaid Capped Artist lately.

I’m catching up on the commission from Geezer, the chainwork on his helmet.  You may recall the skirting I posted a while ago.  Now, I’m making ‘braids’ for the back of it.

I’m making my second dragon, Oberon, for my girlfriend Sammi.  He’ll be made out of anodized titanium, which is a new material for me to work with.

I’ve picked up a commission for a cosplay, of all things.  A friend is pulling a Maria from Silent Hill for Acen and she wants me to make a chain for it.  That’ll be out of brass, which is a another new material for me to work with.

I might pick up a fun little project.  My buddy Andy got a duckling.  I’m going to make it armor.

Lastly, I have to make two boxchain necklaces out of steel.

Pictures’ll come.  It’s been slow and sure so far.  I have some deadlines to meet, so expect updates soon.

As always, check out my chainmail guide and shoot me a message if you’re interested in a commission.

IT BEGINS

Booyah.

Chainmail dragon number two is in the works, using all new materials and different ring sizes.  Photos are soon to come.  I won’t be able to crank out Oberon as quickly as I did Ingot, since Oberon is made with some harder-to-work stuff.

Maille Guide 2012

Materials and Ring Sizes

Everything I make is for steel, aluminum or anodized aluminum.  All the copper I have (as of writing this) is spoken for for other orders.  Once copper is restocked, it will be availible, but will be a little more expensive than the normal pieces using steel or aluminum, due to copper’s price.

I typically only work with 3/8s 16 gauge, 1/4 18 gauge and 3/8s 14 gauge rings.

If you want different materials or ring sizes, you will have to communicate with me.  It’s commonplace for me to make pieces in exhange for the materials and then a little.

AVAILIBLE COLORS (As of writing this document)

Colors are only in 1/4 18 gauge anodized aluminum.  If you want different colors, or colored materials that isn’t aluminum, please refer to the above.

SCALES AVAILIBLE (As of this writing, only large scales, very limited numbers)

For anyone wanting Armor or Clothing

I do not make full shirts or coifs.   They take an awful long time (several months) and end up costing a pile of money, so I choose not to do these pieces.  I’m just one guy with a pair of pliers, afterall. However, will make chain skirtings for helmets, chain vembraces, or other simple chain armor pieces.  For things like bikini tops, you will have to talk to me. Prices will vary case by case, depending exactly on what you want.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

If you want something that isn’t on the basic list, PLEASE communicate with me about it.  Don’t assume, just because I said between X and Y, it will cost X.  Communication is key to making you happy!

Please have your measurements ready.  If you don’t know how to measure, simply take a tape measure and wrap it around your wrist, ankle or neck.  It should be slightly loose.  If you don’t have a measure, simply do the same with a piece of string, snip it where you want it, then measure the string using a measuring device.  Please give all measurements in inches.

I DO NOT MAKE SCALEMAIL.  I add scale accents to things all the time, but I do not make full scale pieces as of the writing of this document.

RETURN POLICY

If you’re unhappy with your piece, please return it within 30 days for a full refund or a replacement of equal value.

The Plaid Capped Insurance Policy

I stand by my works.  If your piece breaks, warps, becomes damaged, etc, within six months, please sent it to me and I will repair it for the cost of shipping.  If the piece arrives damaged in any way (Note that slight warping of rings or closures that aren’t perfect do NOT qualify for this) or the size is improper, send it back and I will either repair or replace it free of charge.  If it is damaged, I will ask that within 24 hours of getting the item, you snap a picture and send it to me via email.  A Timestamp (date and time witten on a note card in the picture) is very much appreciated.

If it does happen to break after six months, please email and tell me what happened.  I will gladly repair it for a very small fee, usually no more than a couple of dollars, plus shipping.

ACCEPTED PAYMENTS

I accept PayPal and Money Order.  NO PERSONAL CHECKS AND NO CASH*. Any order made online, shipping is $3 for the US and $6 for International.

Online Orders:  I do not begin making the pieces until payment is recieved, cleared and A-OK.  I typically have the piece made and shipped out in 1 - 3 business days. However, it can sometimes take a business week before your piece is shipped out.  I have a job and a social life, so sometimes I get very busy. If your piece will be delayed in any way, I will let you know.  I apologize in advance for any inconvinences this may cause.

*I gladly accept very well hidden cash from personal friends, or any cash that is given to me face-to-face.
